Metal furniture and interior accessories for life
Space of Space is a family brand of metal furniture and interior accessories founded by the brothers Jakub and Martin Klimeš at the end of 2020. We have established the brand to challenge the traditional ways of metal manufacturing and to change how people perceive metal furniture with curved shapes, powder colours and functional design. Our aim is to raise awareness of powder coating and to bring more colours to interiors. We see metal as a noble material with long-lasting value that with good care can be passed from generation to generation.
Our signature piece of furniture – Jupiter side table represents all the Space of Space brand values. The curved shape softens the metal, storage space inside the curve makes the product functional and the colours visually warm the material. Special powder coating with fine texture and deep mat adds a natural feeling when touched. Small holes were incorporated in the design to maintain the aspect of manufacturing process. They are meant to ground the surface and hold the metal during powder coating. These are the details that make each piece unique and tell the story of how the products are made.
Together with our first project for KRO Coffee cafe in Prague we created a set of aluminium stackable serving trays Astro. A product that was a challenge for us in a new direction and a path to design products with even better functionality and durability. Today, we deliver Astro trays to cafes and restaurants around the Czech Republic, and we are gradually expanding beyond the borders.
We grew up in an environment where a family business was being built. This urge to build impacted us both from a very young age. Jakub studied architecture at the London Metropolitan University and Royal College of Art in London where he learned how to work with different scales, which today gives him enough of space to create. Martin graduated from the University of Economics in Prague. His strategic and systematic approach often helps to simplify the manufacturing process and increase production effectiveness.
During our short existence we have won several awards including the ELLE Decoration magazine award – EDIDA 2022 in the young talent category. We were nominated for the prestigious Dezeen.com – Dezeen Awards 2021 for the Jupiter side table design. At our debut participation in the Designblok 2021 festival we won the best interior accessories award. Subsequently, we managed to become one of the finalists of the Czech Grand Design awards 2021. In 2022 we won the Czech Design Week festival award – Czech Design Award in the Best of Design category.
